Types of dental veneers and dental veneering process are applications that can be preferred in cases of insufficient oral care, trauma, and deformities, and improve aesthetic appearance. Additionally, applied dental veneers help teeth regain their former functions. Being a popular application, dental veneers are one of the widely preferred treatment options.

What is Dental Veneer?

Dental veneer is a procedure that can be preferred in cases of substance loss, fractures, decay, and tooth tissue loss occurring in one or more teeth. This application is performed with dental veneers specially prepared for each patient because every person’s oral and dental structure is different. In cases where there is loss of function in teeth for any reason or aesthetic appearance is lost, treatment can be applied with dental veneers. While dental veneers applied for aesthetic purposes improve the person’s appearance, dental veneers applied due to functional problems enable better use of the tooth.

Porcelain Veneers

There are different materials used for dental veneers. Porcelain dental veneers are one of these veneer types. Porcelain is a biocompatible material that contains no metal or toxic substances and is presented with natural whiteness. One of the most common reasons porcelain is preferred in dental veneers is that it looks natural like one’s own teeth, far from being artificial. Porcelain veneers can be a good option for people who have problems like discoloration and yellowing in their teeth, and those who experience fractures and losses in their teeth.

Metal-Containing Veneers

Dental veneers containing metal alloy infrastructure are particularly preferred to restore the tooth’s former function in cases such as substance loss, decay, wear, and fracture. Although materials containing metal are less preferred compared to the past, they can be recommended by the dentist in terms of durability and suitability for the person.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneer materials are regularly used by dentists. These veneers, which are white resin material, are prepared by the dentist and applied as adhesive layers, then the process continues until the existing tooth is covered gradually.

Zirconium Veneers

Upper and lower teeth can also be veneered with zirconium material. Being a strong material, it supports the cutting and crushing abilities of back teeth and provides an aesthetic appearance to front teeth. Zirconium veneer types offer many advantages together. People who are not satisfied with the appearance, color, and shape of their teeth can prefer this type of veneer.

Best Type of Dental Veneer

The best dental veneertype is the one that is most suitable for the person and best responds to the person’s needs. The answer to this question should be given by evaluating specifically for each patient. What distinguishes the types is the material of the veneer, and choosing the right material and using the right material for the right person is of great importance at this point.

How Long Does a Veneer Tooth Last?

The lifespan of veneered teeth, or crowns, is closely related to the care applied by the patient. After veneering, the doctor’s recommendations should be considered, oral hygiene should be maintained, and routine dental check-ups should not be neglected. Well-maintained dental veneers can be used without problems for 10-15 years. Dental veneers are procedures that can be reapplied.

What Should We Pay Attention to After Dental Veneering?

Nothing should be eaten or drunk during the first 2 hours after dental veneer treatment. During this time, the veneers bond and settle well in place. Hard and sticky foods should not be consumed during the first 24 hours, and in the subsequent process, activities such as cracking hard nuts with teeth, chewing extremely sticky candy, and similar activities should be avoided.
